髋关节积液是多种髋关节及其周围组织疾病的共同病理改变，病因很多，常见的有以下几种：髋关节暂时性滑膜炎（transient synovitis of the hip）、急、慢性化脓性髋关节炎（acute or chronic septic arthritis of the hip）、髋关节结核（tuberculosis of the hip）、类风湿关节炎（rheumatoid arthritis of the hip）、股骨头缺血性坏死（avascular necrosis of the femoral head）、髋关节骨性关节炎（osteoarthritis of the hip）、创伤性髋关节积血（traumatic hemarthrosis）、色素沉着绒毛结节性滑膜炎（pigmented villonodular synovitis of the hip）。
髋关节积液的病理改变是关节滑膜充血、水肿、渗出、增生，由于病因不同，病程有长短，关节液的理化性状不相同，关节液的检查对鉴别诊断有参考价值。
